AOTW [28] : Kina Grannis

Keeping this short since I’m having midterms and just recently came back from my Batam trip (will blog about it soon!)

Enjoyed the video and the sweet lyrics of  ”Valentine’ by Kina Grannis ! Such a cute voice and lovely lyrics.

AOTW [27] : Gorillaz

I think Gorillaz is probably the only band which remains  ‘unknown’ and their members have this ‘mysterious persona’ behind their cartoon characters.

I like how the band goes viral to reveal their new album Plastic Beach. This trailer is  set to an orchestral soundtrack that tours the album’s cover ! Way different from their usual music but very visually intriguing, can’t wait to see what they have in store for this new album. Though I have to admit that I have no idea what the whole video is suppose to mean !

AOTW [26] : Boyce Avenue

Away from my Ukulele craze for once ! Just last Saturday, my SMUBE seniors Vince and Jasmine got engaged ! I’m so so SO HAPPY for both of them and it’s like a love story with a happy fairytale ending to us juniors who have been there (spying on them) since day 1! (HAHA)

Especially Jasmine, who is my fav BE senior ever (No offense to the rest..haha). Thank You so much for being there for me all the time ! Wish you happiness always and forever and evahh ! Such a gorgeous couple don’t you think ? Congrats !! =)))

I like Chris Brown’s ‘Forever’ alot, especially after watching Jill and Kevin’s wedding march-in to this song. So I’m ‘dedicating’ this post to the newly engaged couple !

AOTW [25] : Frances Lorenzo

Another young talent, at the age of 17, Frances from Canada is another featured ‘Artist of the Week ‘ who is strumming my new favourite instrument – Ukulele.

Pretty cool cover of Keri Hilson’s ‘Knock You Down’. It happened that it was on my grooveshark playlist while looking for more Ukulele players on youtube.

In fact, I saw a couple of Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ covers on youtube but I think Frances’s cover stood out among the rest. Being a cute girl with a sweet voice probably won the others hands down.

For some strange reason, I really like both songs. Now I just want to learn how to play the ukulele and do my own covers too (We shall wait and see.HAH!) Ukulele makes every song sounds so cheerful and happy =) I like !

AOTW [24] : NajMeTender

If you have been following me on twitter, you’ll probably notice that I’ve been talking about the Ukulele alot recently.

NajMeTender caught my eyes because she looks so adorable in the videos ! I really like her style and the best part of it all ? She’s a fellow Singaporean and just 2 years (I think) younger than I am ! Support local talents ! (Here I go again..haha)

AOTW [23] : The Temper Trap

I’ve all along been a very ‘visual’ person. This video caught my eyes mainly because of a really simple reason – somewhere at 0:14 where the birds started flying in, it reminded me of the movie review I had to do back in polytechnic days. It gave me a nightmare to be honest. Not sure which movie I’m referring to ? Try watching Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” 5 times on one day !

That aside, I think this Aussie band is one of the upcoming ones. The song below is featured on the FIFA10 soundtrack for those of you who are gamers and might find it familiar.

By the way, check out their song “Sweet Disposition” which is the song that was featured on the teaser trailer and official soundtrack  of “500 days of Summer”!

AOTW [22] : Sugarland/Matt Nathanson

I love Matt Nathanson’s “Come On Get Higher” since the first time I’ve heard it last year by chance. Meant to blog about it but keeps forgetting. So here I am today, blogging Matt Nathanson as my Artist Of The Week (AOTW)  but I came across Sugarland, a Grammy Award-winning American country music duo did this brilliant cover for the Matt Nathanson’s song.

Sugarland’s music video of Stay was so emotional, felt like crying along with her. Though the song is more suitable for a girl who’s in a love-triangle situation (with the guy deciding between 2 girls of course). Depressing song but great vocal.

AOTW [21] : Axis of Awesome

This is brilliant ! How they put together a history of pop songs by using just 4 chords.

The Axis of Awesome may not be the best singers around but the stuff they do is really awesome, imo at least.

Makes me really wanna catch them live ! Really hiliarious people they are.

Can you figure out all the songs they sang in this ? =)

Doesn’t it make you feel that music songwriters/producers should come up with better songs or be more original ? lol

Discovered AJ Rafael when I was looking for christmas songs on youtube, another young talent I must say.

Currently studying in Berklee College of Music and his first single “I Just Want You” is out on iTunes already.

Pretty cute song ! Especially when it’s played with Ukulele !
