It’s NOT The End.

[Long Entry Ahead]

As you guys probably know by now, I didn’t make it to the Top 10 #WCI ! Am I disappointed ? Perhaps a little but I’m sure there are reasons why the final 10 is the final 10 and there’s nothing much to ‘cry over’ since I’ve tried my best and it has been a fun experience. So not to worry about me, like I said – your same old @iammyy here !

Getting into Final 23s was already a bonus to me – to think that I’ve never quite considered joining this in the first place to coming up with the last minute post just because my friends around me were like ‘Come on ! Just give it a go ! It’s so you please!” to finding out that I was in the Final 23 among the thousand over applicants to rushing out a video in the middle of the night after school with my closest bunch of friends till 4am. What more can I ask for ? I would have never experience all these without trying in the first place ! So thank you @StanChartBreeze for the opportunity !

To answer some questions I’ve received so far :

1) How did you get into Top 23 ? I have no idea ! Perhaps I was the wildcard ?  (haha) But all I did was blog – shared on 3 platforms and waited. Nothing special in particular (I did not use the $100 GoogleAd credit as well)

2) Did you have a strategy ? Obviously not ! I was rather last minute (my bad) since school is still my first priority afterall !

3) I was reading your old entries, do you have a boyfriend ? What a personal question, but not anymore and not looking ! Enjoy my life, focusing on school/career. Happy to have my family+friends around ! Romantic relationships can wait I guess ? haha

4) What’s next ? Continue my undergrad life and hopefully end it by next April ! Grabbing any opportunities along the way when it comes =) AND this will be my last WCI-related post for sure !

5) I really like your AOTW posts ! Thank You ! I think that’s the only thing I can be proud of as a ‘blogger’. Haha !

Here I am, after a much needed rest (lack of >3hrs sleep for the past few days is no joke). Just wanna briefly thank each and everyone who supported me for this #WCI competition ! Something I doodled within 15 minutes…There’s a reason why my Design School lecturer gave me C- for drawing ok! =P

Thank You to the Mak family for understanding, especially when I contributed the most to the electricity bill (haha!) Esp to my elder sister, Hilda for her support on the other side of  the Great Firewall (yes, she’s currently in Beijing).

Next would be you readers, friends on twitter, facebook and plurk for the never-ending flow of support and encouragement ! Every single retweet/plurk/message counts and because of all these platforms, I’ve met many wonderful new friends. Thank You for all the opportunities and kind words! It has been an amazing journey since I first designed my website on Geocities and now, I have my own blog with growing number of readers. Really a motivation to continue blogging and knowing that there are people who actually like to read my entries! Thank You once again !

These are the people whom I’ve been with for the past 3+ years and despite the fact that I dislike school (who doesn’t !?) I am glad I’ve made wonderful friends in there. Special thanks to those who spared that few minutes to write a message and be publicly featured on my #WCI video ! Week 13…HANG IN THERE PEOPLE ! It’ll be my final term next year, will miss everyone alot ! Not forgetting the wonderful seniors who are busy working but not forgetting to drop me words of encouragement too !

Last but not least, this is the bunch of people whom I can never thank enough. My other family ! People who shared my tears and joy along the way, who helped me no matter how busy they are, who shared stupid jokes and giggled at everything, who stayed with me in school till 4am to finish up the video and a spontaneous marketing team till 7am, who flooded the rest of their network with my links/video in the middle of the night, who made sure I am fed all the time and had enough rest – not forgetting not to skip school (lol), who gave me words of support and much needed hugs when I feel like breaking down/giving up. You guys know who you are =) They have been the biggest support in my entire 4 years of SMU life and the friendships I’ve made in the club is something I’ll always treasure. Thank You everyone in SMUBE =)  *sniff*

There’s just so many things to say and people to thank but I’ll stop here before everyone dies from my ugly handwriting and drawing..Once again, Thank You for being part of my life ! Cone Testicles all !

<3

p.s : sorry to disappoint you guys =( no treats from me…..hahahahaha *runs away*

It’s Time For Me To Start Thinking ‘The Unthinkable’

Nobody can predict the future, that’s for sure. With 1.5 more years to my graduation, thinking about my future career plans now is like thinking the ‘unthinkable’ with the ever changing world. But that brings me to my point that “the world is full of possibilities” and I intend to consider them all.

There is one thing I took away from my 3 years in Temasek Design School and that is ‘Passion’. It is important to be passionate about your (future) profession instead of dragging your feet to work every morning with a grumpy face. From recent Wall Street Journal,  “Doing the Math to Find the Good Jobs “, it is questionable to whether the data has anything based on ‘Job Satisfaction’ to call it ‘good jobs’. (Researcher Bias?)

As an aspiring Experiential Marketer/Wedding Planner (which I personally think that it puts my Interactive Media Design Diploma and Social Sciences Degree into a perfect match), it may not be as glamorous as others would imagined it to be but I find the job rewarding when I get satisfied feedback and smiling faces throughout the event.

Passion driven, communication and interaction with people, brainstorming for creative ideas  and pulling off an event as a team at the end of the day, I think each event is a challenge that pushes my limit further each time. Nobody will teach you what to do when you’re at your job, from my internship experiences, I think it is up to an individual to live and love your job – whatever your ‘chosen path’ might be.

The world is indeed full of possibilities, I’m thankful to be able to attend events as a ‘blogger’, an experiential marketing internship at IRIS as well as networking with many others via social media platforms. I hope to reach out to more like-minded people or potential employers who share the same passion – being part of that special moment in someone’s life and creating a memorable experience for them (and myself).

I’m always looking for more new learning experiences so contact me at ingridmak (at) gmail (dot) com , leave a comment or drop me a tweet at @iammyy !

Blog-A-Trend : MYY FutureIs ?

futureisLast Saturday, I had the privilege to attend this blogger event/panel organised by HP and Microsoft. The event theme was “Envision the Future” and 6 panelists shared their thoughts on the future. I enjoyed the event alot because it was an eye-opener to see how different individuals see the future as in different perspectives.

School is getting busy so I’ll update more about the event and my thoughts after the discussion in abit! As for now, I’m here to share some good news ! Here’s your chance to win something awesome from HP !

On a side note, it was also my first visit to  Giraffe Restaurant & Bar, food isn’t too bad at all !

HP’s new campaign called “Blog A Trend“, Here’s the details !

What Is “Blog A Trend”?
It’s the simplest ideas that change the world. We believe bringing minds with various insights and ideas will certainly spark a revolution.

Blog A Trend is how you get to start your very own future revolution.

How Blog A Trend works:
Pen a blog post (of at least 300 words), or create a photo story, or even produce a video clip about the most compelling vision of the future. Once it’s up on your blog, email your post to us with the permalink to futureis@ waggeneredstrom.com by 28th February 2010.

Blog A Trend is eligible for bloggers residing in Singapore only.

What you should blog about:
Tell us about the future and what trends define it. Here’s a tip: think about people, think about what they like, what they don’t like and how those behaviors will be redefined in the future. Your submission can even be your opinion on a trend you see emerging. Share these ideas with your readers and generate a discussion – your first step in starting a revolution.

In short, tell us what you believe will soon become part of our everyday lives and then, get people talking. If our judges think your post has generated the most interesting discussions, you’ll get to win the latest gadgets from HP’s latest line-up of computers

Nokia : Comes With Music

How can you not be impressed by the people at Nokia ?

Tired of downloading music onto your computers (be it legally or *coughs* illegally) then transferring them to your phones AND mp3 players ?  The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is your solution – it is not only just a phone but also comes with  FREE unlimited songs to download on-the-go !

nzouk

SMU Campus Radio was invited to the Nokia Radio Show aka the official media launch of Nokia’s new “Comes with Music” phones last week. (Kudos to the people at Text100 and the boyfriend) Being Nokia users ourselves, Ser Hua and myself were really excited to know more about this new series.

nmuttons

The Muttons from 987 hosted the event, there were stage games and casual interviews with the Nokia people and record labels for us to understand the Nokia’s new campaign better.

We had Ser Hua as our repsentative for the game segment too ! Evil Grin

Nokia 5800 – Games Segment #2 from Ingrid on Vimeo.

The main feature is how you can download unlimited tracks for FREE !  (Don’t we all love this word?) I think the Nokia people are really thoughtful when it comes to designing a stylish practical phone that puts their  consumers’ needs as top priority.

nrecordlabels

For instance, I’m carrying my N82 for phone usage+camera and my laptop for internet and transferring of files and my mp3 player for music. Now things are so much easier when you can just click , download music and play them directly on your phone. I thought the stripes concept for this campaign was quite simple (yays for the creative team i suppose) but straight to the point. Great Job ! The media buzz was definitely right at your face yet not too annoying.

The 5800 offers 8GB memory for up to 6,000 tracks and support for all main digital music formats, yays to 3.5mm jack and built-in surround sound stereo speakers ! I really like the touchscreen which wasn’t too sensitive as compared to some of the touchscreen phones out there. The Nokia interface is almost idiot-proof, it is really user-friendly and the price is really attractive too ! Where else can you get a touchscreen phone with these functions AND unlimited FREE downloads of songs from Nokia Music Store ? I’m really tempted to replace my trusty N82 for this. Shame  Though I would still prefer my 5megapixels camera phone to a 3.2 Thinking

Back to the event, I was really surprised to see the All American Rejects !! Too bad they didn’t had a chance to play a song or two (but they had this Nokia Party after the launch). nqueuenparty

It was a mad mad queue for the carpark party at night though ! People were already queuing at 5pm !

Nonetheless, it was really a pleasant surprise and woah, they were just steps away !

On a sidenote, met many bloggers for the first time too ! Wink Great to meet every single one of you ! (Sorry I was looking so blur..lol)

nmedia1

Last but not least, Thank you Ser Hua, Daryl and Krisandro for the wonderful afternoon !

Daryl and Krisandro

Daryl and Krisandro aka the greedy bloggers (lol)

Looking forward to more events such as these !
