HIMYM : Bad News

**mild spoilers**

This week’s How I Met Your Mother (S06E13 ‘Bad News’ ) was interesting – who would have thought this comedy can get fans tearing up at the end of the show ! I almost thought ‘Bad News’ referred to the couple’s pregnancy results but surprise!  The ending was a gloomy scene that came as a surprise to most of the viewers, it was a loss that everyone would feel for. I think this episode was one of Jason Segel (Marshall)’s best performance.

Marshall: We’ve had unprotected sex 203 times in the past four months. Obviously, I’m the problem.
Barney:Problem? That’s the dream. I’d give my first born to not be able to have children.

Finally we see Barney’s doppleganger ! It was quite a funny scene to see paranoid Lily and Marshall refusing to believe that the fertility specialist doppleganger isn’t Barney himself. Though I must say the second visit to ‘Dr. Stangel’ the doppleganger, Barney really got Marshall and many of us fooled when he impersonated him (the doctor) ! NPH can really pull off the beard and dark hair eh ? I love how Lily and Marshall high-fived over the number of times they tried to conceive and places they have been doing it (coughs..ideas ? haha) The part where Marshall’s parents were interrupting his ‘hair drying’ moment was really funny too.

Marshall:I’ll give my dad a call after Dr. Stengal gives me the thumbs up.
Ted: “Ew! He has to do that?

Robin’s subplot wasn’t too interesting but I love her thumb-down moments. Enjoyed the short snippets of her embarrassing moments, Robin Sparkles rocks! I thought it was sweet of Ted to pay a visit to Sandy Rivers’s house as well but the main plot and the distracting countdown stole the attention. I honestly thought that the countdown was for a special ‘New Year’ gimmick but apparently it’s meant for counting down to the sad ending. I would have thought that it was rather attention-seeking since I noticed the numbers right from the start but I actually enjoyed looking out of the next number during the show. In conclusion,I appreciate the sudden seriousness in the comedy and Jason Segel’s brilliant acting. Oh, not forgetting Ted’s “Sensory Deprivator 5000″ from S02E14 ‘Monday Night Football’ !

If you missed the countdown in the show, here’s a nice HIMYM countdown recap I found !

So how did you find this episode ?  I’m looking forward to the lasertag game that Barney is bugging everyone about !

Movie Buzz : Monsters vs Aliens in 3D

I *finally* caught this movie with the boyfriend last week after talking about it for the longest time, I guess one thing we have in common is our liking for anything that’s related to monsters/aliens/zombies. We decided to catch the movie in 3D as recommended by our friends on plurk and oh boy, it sure was a visual treat !

When I first came across the title, I imagined a movie that’s similar to AVP with scary looking creatures having this “end-of-the-world” smackdown. Rather thankful for something that’s totally different with adorable characters crafted with different personalities, my personal favourite gotta be Bob and Insectosaurus !

Quite a tickling comedy that’s suitable for all ages, crude humor between those clever dialogues. Bob provides all the comical blunders that you’ll probably need in a movie. Loves how he tried to hook up with the Jello !

The 3D effects were awesome ! The depth of field and random stuff flying towards you was a great experience, but more importantly, the clarity of animation was astounding. Even though it was not the kind of 3D effects that will keep you on the edge of your seats, I had a good time and really enjoyed having those ugly 3D glasses on.

Great voice talents as well, I think one important criteria for a good animation film is having engaging voice talents who can really portray your characters in a more “lively” manner. Although this time round, the talents used are unusally high-caliber for such an animation film ? Guess they are really trying to make it a big success.

If you’re going to the theatres to check this out, do remember to watch it in 3D !

P.S : I’m collecting the MvA Happy Meal Toys in my office ! I WANT BOB ! (any kind souls want to donate the other 5 4 i’m missing? lol) [update : the boyfriend got me bob today...hur hur]

Movie Buzz : Marley & Me

The boyfriend and I caught “Marley & Me” today. Based on John Grogan‘s best-selling book, this film is definitely a must-watch for all dog lovers. Dog (although I have yet to read the book)

((potential spoilers alert)) Film

marleyandme1

It chronicles the relationship of John (Owen Wilson) and Jen (Jennifer Aniston), the newly-wed couple who decided to settle down and start a family of their own…and it all began with a really cute Labrador , Marley. Basically Marley is this “world’s worst dog” who chews through wall, gets kicked out from obedience school and gets turned on by legs. But throughout it all, dog is always a man’s best friend and the film portrays that fact quite perfectly.

The set was gorgeous with perfect lighting and the cinematography was not too bad for a family film. I thought Owen Wilson played his role pretty well, the comedic persona with a tinge of SNAG (sentsitive new age guy) feel. Jennifer Aniston is (as usual) gorgeous and a total natural at playing the damsel in distress. I thought the boss (Alan Arkin) was quite an outstanding character with his witty lines too. Of course the main lead goes to Marley the dog who totally worthed all the cooing and cracking up over his silly actions. Blush

I liked how the story flows like a diary and makes audience feel as though they are part of the character’s lives. I was quite emotionally “attached” to Marley by the end of the film and I was sobbing when Marley left the family.  Cry  In fact, I was quite upset when Jennifer Aniston lost her first baby. I really enjoyed such family films to begin with, the happy scenes with the entire family and Marley were very memorable and I kinda envy that kind of life. (Though 3 kids and 1 dog sound alil scary for me) Drunken Razz I can say that I walked out of the theatre feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. It was so worth the tears. HAHA !

It was undeniably a sweet, simple film that has quite a good message(s) behind it. Unconditional love between the characters, how unexpected situations in life surprise you but you can make whatever you want out of it. When things get tough, stick with it and make the best out of it instead. Overall, I guess this is a movie that any dog owners/lovers can relate to wholeheartedly. I think it is an instant classic that many will enjoy, so do go and catch it if you have yet to ! Dog 2 I’m so tired but I just have to blog this out before I sleep. =X

P.S :  Just a casual reminder, as much as I love dogs and I think everyone else should too…do not get yourself a dog if you’re not ready to be a responsible dog owner. No matter how cute/adorable/must-have the dog is to you, please bear in mind the responsibilities that comes with him/her. Dogs are not toys ! Frown  They too need as much attention and love as a human being.

Marley & Me Official Trailer

“A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.” – Marley & Me
