AOTW [37] : The Starting Line

Love the acoustic version of this song by The Starting Line who just recently had a reunion concert in end 2009. They have toured with some of my favourite bands such as Brand New,  Fall Out Boys, Boys like Girls, Yellowcard etc – looking forward to hear more from them. This song is almost 8 years old but I would say it’s still radio material ! Enjoy ! (Ignore the first part, song starts at 0:12)

“Best Of Me” – The Starting Line

tell me what you thought about
when you were gone and so alone
the worst is over
you can have the best of me
we got older but we’re still young
we never grew out of this feeling that we wont give up

here we lay again
on two separate beds
riding phone lines
to hear that familiar voice
and pictures brought from memory
we reflect on miscomunication
and misunderstandings
and missing each other two
much too without you, let go

we turn our music down
and we whisper
say what your thinking right now
tell me what you thought about
when you were gone and so alone
the worst is over
you can have the best of me
we got older but we’re still young
we never grew out of this feeling that we wont give up

jumping to conclusions
made me fall away from you
i’m so glad that the truth
has brought back together me and you

we’re sitting on the ground
and we whisper
say what your thinking outloud

tell me what you thought about
when you were gone and so alone
the worst is over
you can have the best of me
we got older but we’re still young
we never grew out of this feeling that we wont give up

we turn our music down
and we whisper
we’re sitting on the ground
and we whisper
we turn our music down
we’re sitting on the ground
and next time i’m in town
we will kiss girl
we will kiss girl

tell me what you thought about
when you were gone and so alone
the worst is over
you can have the best of me
we got older but we’re still young
we never grew out of this feeling that we wont
feeling that we cant
we’re not ready to give up

we got older but we’re still young
we never grew out of this feeling that we wont give up

AOTW [31] : Skyrocket Love

I’m usually blasting my Grooveshark playlist when it’s the exam mugging period. I was just adding some old school songs and discover that Grooveshark now promotes upcoming bands to its listeners on their main page. Way to go !

Skyrocket Love caught my eyes (ok, to be exact – the one on the left, haha! I think he’s the keyboardist?) and decided to give their songs a listen. Pretty awesome stuff I must say ! Reminds me alot of  One Republic and Yellowcard somehow for a strange reason, although I feel that their influences came mainly from (of course) artists that I really like – Coldplay, Jimmy Eat World, Muse, Snow Patrol etc. Can’t really find the right ‘label’ to the band, but I like their own style and voice too.

I really enjoyed ‘Save The World’, ‘Rushing Back’ and ‘Safe In My Dreams’. Go check them out on their myspace for more ! So far, I must say I’m lovin’ them on my playlist =)

[wish i could find the lyrics but no luck =( ]

Not ONE but TWO All-Time-Fav Rock bands !

In response to Daphne‘s question “What’s your favourite rock band of all time?”

I really had a hard time deciding since there are really alot of good bands out there (which I love equally), but I guess I shall not be too greedy and just settle on these two – Coldplay & Travis.

I was never an English music fan till secondary school days – yes, the glory girl/boybands days and pop music from Aqua, Toybox etc (Gee, I’m embarrassed)

Following the bands came Justin Timberlake (whom I still consider a rather good performer) , problematic Britney Spears and  Christina Aguilera.

It was till later years when I developed a liking for bands like Bon Jovi , Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol,Yellowcard and of course the mentioned two.

Then again, I’ve always preferred to look into the songs rather than following one band solely when it comes to music. Lyrics is a more important factor when it comes to liking a song.

ColdplayColdplay is definitely one of my favourite since polytechnic days with their hit singles such as “The Scientist”, “Yellow”, “Speed of Sound” and “Fix You”.  I never quite like their music initially till I saw their live performance on TV. Chris Martin is a charming performer, his voice just has this strange magnetisim that draws you to him.  The lighting elements in the live performance? Always spectacular, great use of visual aids ! Their latest album “Viva La Vida” is not my favourite as compared to the previous albums but their songs represent so much emotions and meaning in them. Plus, alternative rock is always good music !

According to their twitter, the band is releasing a live CD of their Viva La Vida tour, “LeftRightLeftRightLeft” as a free download from their official website from 15 May ! I’m looking forward to that !

Here’s my all time favourite from them (despite being overplayed), “Yellow” live in Sydney 2003.

Not forgetting Travis, another of my favourite ! Songs like “Closer” and “Love will come through” are the top of my list.

As well as the following song, ” Flowers  In the Window” Acoustic version !

You can definitely hear alot of Coldplay and Travis on my campus radio show (totally biased when it comes to music selection. HAHA), although now I try to feature more local bands and talk about the local arts and music scene more. Speaking of which, I hope to start on my “project” soon..stop procrastinating, Ingrid Mak!

So repeating Daphne‘s question : “What’s YOUR favourite rock band of all time ? “
